Jari Kaivo-oja - Adviser

Jari Kaivo-oja is the Adviser of CMI´s R&D unit. His special fields are foresight methodologies in conflict management, global foresight and international economics. He has applied innovation, creativity and think tanking tools and science & technology foresight methods. He has special expertise in energy economics, climate change and security politics. He has broad research experience in strategic and participatory foresight processes in Europa and in international contexts (among other things 3 years in the Lao PDR and Mekong River research program).

He has worked in many European FT6 and FT7 research programs and projects (7 EU projects in sustainability & security fields). He has worked as a Finnish national co-ordinator in the COST A22 (Foresight methodologies) and as an expert member of the international think tank of European Sustainability Strategy. He has also worked for the European Foundations (Dublin) and for the European Parliament (Brussels) as well as for the Nordic Innovation Centre (NIC, Oslo). In Finland he has been researcher of the Academy of Finland, the VTT, the Finnish Technology and Innovation Fund TEKES and various ministries. He has also done many foresight projects for companies and corporations. He has also special experience as scientific project evaluator in the Security Research Programmes of the European Union. He has been over 2 years a foresight expert blog writer of the SITRA Foundation. He has been lecturing for the European Science Foundation and for the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2011 he was a visiting scholar at the Stanford University (CA). Jari Kaivo-oja joined CMI in 2012.
