
Antje Herrberg - Director & Senior Mediation Advisor
Antje Herrberg is the Senior Mediation Advisor of CMI. This work also includes the coordination of the mediation cluster of the Initiative for Peacebuilding and the overall direction of work of CMI in the Black Sea Region. Her interest and goal of her research and practical work is to enhance and develop professional practice of international peace mediation, with a special interest for the EU in this field.
Parallel to her work at CMI, Antje Herrberg also represents Interpeace Europe (chaired by Martti Ahtisaari) an institutional partner of CMI. She is the chair of the Steering Committee of the European Peacebuilding Liason Office, a platform of 25 peacebuilding NGO’s of which CMI is a member. Her practical work includes facilitation in a number of geographical contexts, including Georgia/Abhkazia. Next to her practical mediation work, she is creating a network of professional mediators that can be engaged in international conflict situations. She is a consultant to the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs Conflict Resolution Unit.
Antje Herrberg joined CMI as the European Policy Director in 2004 where she set up a rapidly growing CMI’s Brussels office. Since 2005, she has been focussing on issues of private diplomacy also setting up the Martti Ahtisaari Rapid Reaction Facility. Before joining CMI, she was the Regional Director for Europe of the EastWest Institute, (then chaired by Martti Ahtisaari), worked both for the EU and the OSCE, the College of Europe, the University of Limerick and University of Aalborg, alongside with various public and private consultancy assignments.
Antje Herrberg holds two bachelor degrees from Schiller International University in International Relations and Diplomacy, and Economics. In addition, she has a degree from University College of Dublin European Economic and Public Affairs (M.Econ.Sci.), a Ph.D in International Relations from University of Aalborg, and recently, a master’s degree in Mediation from University of Viadrina.
