Mariama Conteh - Adviser

Mariama Conteh has joined CMI as an Adviser for its project on “Multi-track mediation and peace processes in West Africa”.  She will be leading the project in partnership with Ghana based partners, the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC). The project seeks to develop a comprehensive training program for multi-track mediation and conflict analysis for key decision-makers in the sub-region.

Ms Conteh has worked in the West Africa region since 2002 based in both Sierra Leone and London. Before joining CMI she worked in various capacities with Conciliation Resources, an international peace building NGO, and more recently as their West Africa Program director.  The particular focus of the work was on peace building projects with civil society organizations in the Mano River sub-region.  She later went on to work on an ECOWAS specific project for a program based at the Department of War Studies at King’s College in London.

Most recently Ms Conteh led the peace building and conflict resolution program for the Goree Institute based in Dakar, Senegal.  Projects had a strong research and training focus.  Ms Conteh has commissioned research on issues such as the crisis in Guinea, a publication on experiences of West African mediators and produced a documentary film on the ECOMOG intervention in Sierra Leone. She holds a Masters degree in Development Studies and an undergraduate degree in Politics and Development Studies, both from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London.
