What is a good mediator?
European diplomats as well as mediation professionals from nongovernmental organisations are featured in this video to reflect on the question: What is a good mediator?
The clip gives an insight on the major and tricky issues for those involved in mediation and facilitation. Themes cover “characteristics of a good mediator”, “professional mediator skill box” and “code of conduct/rules in mediation”.

Regional meeting of the Black Sea Peacebuilding Network
In December 2009 Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) held a one day dialogue meeting in Tbilisi that convened the representatives of CMI’s regional partner organizations as well as selected members of the Peacebuilding Expert Councils from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Republic of Moldova. President Martti Ahtisaari discusses International Peace Mediation in these three short films
The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded Mr. Ahtisaari for his role as an outstanding international peace mediator. Through his constant efforts and personal commitment, Mr. Ahtisaari has demonstrated how important mediation can be for the resolution of international conflicts.
In this short series of films, Martti Ahtisaari highlights: the qualities of a good mediator and the brand ‘Ahtisaari’; different negotiations and mediation scenarios and finally advocates for a stronger role of the European Union as an international peace mediator. The interviews are conducted by Dr Antje Herrberg.
