AU Experts Examine Transitional Justice Issues (10.8.2010)
The African Union (AU) is taking a closer look at the challenges posed by transitional justice issues during mediation processes.
Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) in collaboration with the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) convened an expert meeting on AU’s experience on peace and justice. The meeting was held in mid-July in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
A group of experts agreed that AU’s mediation practice should be focused on the need to build sustainable peace. In line with AU norms this requires an approach which addresses key issues of impunity, reconciliation and justice. The goal is to ensure that existing policy commitments are put into practice in concrete cases.
