CMI organized a discussion event on post-conflict economic recovery (23.9.2009)

CMI hosted an informal meeting between Mr. Steve Killelea and representatives of the Finnish business community.

The event was chaired by President Martti Ahtisaari and it was meant to act as a platform for discussion on the possibilities of international corporations to engage in post-conflict economic recovery and their willingness to support peace initiatives.

The guest speaker was Australian IT-pioneer, Steve Killelea. He is the founder of the Global Peace Index (GPI) which is an attempt to measure the relative position of nations’ and regions’ peacefulness. It is maintained by the Institute for Economics and Peace and developed in consultation with an international panel of peace experts from peace institutes and think tanks with data collected and analysed by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The study is endorsed by individuals such as President Martti Ahtisaari, Kofi Annan, Muhammad Yunus, economist Jeffrey Sachs, former president of Ireland Mary Robinson and former US president Jimmy Carter.
