Peace Mediation and Dialogue

There are critical junctures in conflict situations where agreements need to be reached. Accepted third parties can bring those in conflict together and support them to reach solutions that serve the interests of the conflicting parties. CMI advises and supports a number of actors, including governments, regional organisations and non state organisations to building their expertise in peace mediation and dialogue.

Women, Peace and Security in Aceh

Women, Peace and Security in AcehCMI support Acehnese civil society organizations (JPUP) working on empowerment of women in different parts of Aceh through promoting inclusive processes which strengthen the peace and facilitats the establishment of a more democratic and equal Acehnese society. Establishment of this network allows 30 Acehnese civil society organisations to coordinate and assess their own activities through the experiences of post-conflict development.

   

Black Sea Peacebuilding Network Project

Black Sea projectCMI aims to motor a Black Sea regional network of non-governmental organizations on peace-building issues with strong linkages at the European level. This initiative is a continuation that engaged four leading think-tanks and NGOs from Armenia, R. Moldova, Georgia and Azerbaijan and CMI in a project to strengthen the civil society in the Black Sea region trough the establishment of national expert councils on conflict resolution. The project provides a solid basis for the development of civil society peace building forums on the national and regional level.

The African Union Mediation Support Capacity Project

The African Union Mediation Support Capacity Project was launched in 2009 as a collaboration between the African Union’s Conflict Management Division (AU CMD), the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) and the Crisis Management Initiative (CMI). It is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.

Initiative for Peacebuilding

Iniative for PeacebuildingCMI leads the mediation cluster of the Initiative for Peacebuilding, a consortium of 10 international NGOs active in the field of peacebuilding. The two-phased project will come to an end in September 2010. The IfP advances the EU’s capacity to act in a meaningful way in International Peace Mediation.

This will be achieved through:

  1. Sharing and promoting international and regional cooperation in international peace mediation,
  2. Supporting mediation capacity of the EU
  3. Strengthening geographic and thematic knowledge and learning.
